But see what's funny about what I just said is, I didn't hear any of these songs at all growing up. None of the songs, or even the pretty quality sound effects, evoke any nostalgia for me, except by association. You see, when I played my DS (and, for the most part, it was the only thing I played growing up), I would do so in the living room, with the volume turned off so as not to disrupt the TV, conversations, etc. Not that my parents were mean about it or anything, I was just (and still am) a quiet, non-bothering sort, and I had managed to avoid ever learning what headphones were, so here we are. Unfortunately, I can't really wax psychological about what this deprivation did to me; I've always been a bookworm, so I doubt I even noticed. Rather anticlimactic, I know, but that's what life generally is.
