Fossil Fighters' Plot is a Masterpiece by Eight-Year-Old Standards

Part of what got me back into this game in High School was memories of it having this incredibly deep, awesome plot. Comrades, I am here to tell you, that it in fact does not. Basically everything could use more fleshing out, none of the characters really grow or change, and the Dinurian stuff really just comes down to "Alien Nazis chill out once they respect us for punching them in the face hard enough." I always thought of the Dinurians as having this unusually relatably motivation--like, who wouldn't be mad when their plan doesn't work, you know? But in the cold light of day, like, no, they're just eugencists. Hell, it's very obvious that the whole "the AI summoned Guhnash to kill us" thing is just an excuse for a super climactic final boss, but ironically that's the most relevant part of the game these days.

Now I think the game is hilarious and has good gameplay, so having a less than literary plot (which is still above-average, at least) is fine. But the other point I wanted to make is I first played this game when I was in like the 2nd Grade. So compared to cartoons, half-understood YA books*, and infomercials, Fossil Fighters, to use a cliche, really expanded my idea of what a story could be. Most video games (and especially most JRPGs) have disappointed me ever since, but I'll take that over not even noticing at all.

*Ah, the curse of an above-average reading level. I knew what all the words said, but I sure as hell didn't understand what they meant.
